I’m sleeping later in the winter. In the summer I was waking up at 7.30 alarm-less, present, but now in the cold that feels groggy and forced. I won’t force it, it’s not worth it to be begrudgingly virtuous and then exhausted. 8.30 on the other hand, that feels warm and cosy and gentle in the cool mornings, light still soft.
Share a soft morning with me:
- Wake up, to bread-smell and gentle alarm. With tea-towel gloves knock the loaf free from the tin and press hands against it to warm them.
- Coffee: beans, grind, pull. Granola with vanilla yoghurt and crumbled raspberries. Water. Sit outside in the chill air with a book I bought more than a year ago.
- Turn the sauna on to heat up. Attempt to foam roll the aches in my neck but end up simply lying down. Manage a couple of sun salutations waiting for the sauna.
- Sauna. Breathe in the warm. Stay here till the sweat drips rather than rolls, about 20 minutes.
- Shower, scalp massage. In the heat-lamps of the bathroom, complete a very full skincare routine.
- Second breakfast (hobbit – style). Butter on the fresh rosemary bread, coffee.
- A quiet video till my partner arrives; brave the outdoors together.
